Charitable Causes
Please help us in our effort to make a difference by donating time and/or money to one of the very respectable charities that we have chosen to support. At ITSource we believe that it is important to give back to those who need it and since we started this program in late 2007 we have donated more than $60,000 and hundreds of hours to the causes we believe in.
Causes We Support
The Faustman Lab / MGH & Harvard Medical School - BCG Human Clinical Trial Program
ITSource is excited to be involved in helping raise awareness and money for the Faustman Lab's BCG Human Clinical Trial Program. They are testing whether using Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG), an inexpensive generic drug that temporarily elevates TNF levels in the body, will reduce or eliminate the disease-causing T cells in patients living with type 1 diabetes. Under the direction of Denise Faustman, MD, PhD, Director of the MGH Immunology Lab, and David Nathan, MD, Director of the MGH Diabetes Center, an FDA-approved, Phase I human clinical trial was conducted and demonstrated that vaccination with BCG is safe in individuals with Type 1 Diabetes. Based on their amazing success in Phase I, they are now focused on the next step of conducting a Phase II study. In this study they will need to identify the “best” dose of BCG and the best schedule for giving this potential new therapy and achieving the desired effects.
The Phase II trial will involve testing BCG in greater numbers of patients with Type 1 Diabetes. It will also give more information on how effective this treatment might be, providing the information needed to launch late-stage human clinical trials (Phase III studies). Please e-mail them directly at DiabetesTrial@partners.org if you have any questions about the trials.
Donate Now to the BCG Human Clinical Trial Program
There are an estimated 1 million Americans living with type 1 diabetes today, many of them children. We hope our approach will provide a new, safer, less costly treatment option or even cure for these individuals, one that may relieve them of the need to have multiple daily insulin injections or wear an insulin pump. This program also offers new hope for those in less developed countries, where the introduction of affordable diabetes treatments could mean the difference between life and death.
Their Type 1 Diabetes Research Program Is Unique
• Our goal is to reverse advanced diabetes, not just temporarily halt new?onset disease or treat symptoms.
• The trials do not require lifelong immunosuppressive drugs or cell transplants.
• The trials are designed to kill only the disease?causing cells, sparing healthy cells.
• The trials employ BCG, a safe and inexpensive generic drug. If BCG is shown to be a successful diabetes treatment, it could become available to diabetics much more quickly than a new drug.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation
We are proud supporters of the The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (MJFF) as they are going above and beyond in their efforts which can be seen by their impressive track record of giving, from inception, over 84 percent of every dollar raised to research. As of December 2006, they have funded over $90 million in research, either directly or through partnerships. With growing resources, their focus is increasingly on the clinical and translational research crucial to making strides toward a cure; in both 2005 and 2006, over 90 percent of their funding went to such research.
